Long are the days when one just makes a quick phone call or writes a note. There's voicemail, texting, email, blogs, websites, and so much more. I'm working on taking a "green approach" to Pamm's House, so here's what I do to keep parents "in the know" about their child in care.
Pamm’s House Blog at Blogger:
I use a blog to share recipes, photos of the children, slide shows, parenting information, announcements of upcoming events such as parties, etc. The blog is password protected and open only to those I invite (parents of children attending my care). Pamm’s House Google Calendar:
I have a Google Calendar set up for each child in my care. The calendar is private, password protected, and by invitation only. This is where I record times I give children medicine, any minor injuries (bumps, scratches, bruises), behavior problems, generally how each child’s day is going, lunch menus (for those old enough), cute things the children might do or say, etc. Although I will discuss these things with parents at the time parents pick-up their child, the calendar is something parents can view throughout the day or when they get home. It serves as a "green daily note".
Digital Photos:
I do my best to get a few photos of each child each week. Photos are emailed about once a week to parents. Photos are also stored at SmugMug.com (I have a discount code Here. Photos are password protected at Smug Mug. I make a new album each month. Some photos are added to the blog and occasionally, photos are used for art projects.
Online Payments:
I offer a $5 discount per week for setting up automatic payments online through Child Care Pay (a green way to pay). Providers can set up this service for their clients through Minute Menu Kids, link and discount Here.
Email and Texting:
When it's practical, I text or email parents. Some parents have access to texting and email at work and some don't.
