Gross Motor--Jumping

Take turns jumping on a jogging trampoline or old crib matteress (on the floor).

Put carpet squares a foot apart (or hula-hoops on the ground) and practice jumping from one to another.

Play the Jack-in-the-Box Game -- Say "Jack-in-the-box" and have the children crouch down. Then say "Jack-out-of-the-box" and have the children jump up. From time to time repeat the same phrase twice in a row to make sure that the children are listening carefully.

Read the nursery rhyme Jack Be Nimble then have children take turns jumping over a candlestick.



Math -- 5

Count up to 5 objects with the children.

Print out this Number Five Number Buddy.



Science -- Lions & Pumpkins

~Lions~

Play a game of Sleeping Lions: All of the children ( except one or two hunters ) lie down on the floor in sleeping positions. Once they are settled, they are not allowed to move. The hunters walk through the room and try to make the sleeping lions move by making them laugh, telling them jokes, and so on. The hunters are not allowed to touch the lions. Once the lions have moved, they get up and join the hunters.

~Pumpkins~

Use crayola markers on real mini-pumpkins to decorate them and supply a damp sponge to wipe off when finished. As a class project, color on a large pumpkin.

Choose one or more activities from A to Z Kids Stuff.

Use some ideas from Perpetual Preschool.



Color -- Orange

Make an Orange Collage using bits of orange tissue paper, orange fun foam, orange yarn, orange stickers, color with orange crayons and markers, etc.

Have children mix red and yellow paint to make orange.

Have an "Orange Day": Everyone wear orange, serve oranges and graham crackers with orange frosting, etc.

Choose one or more Orange Theme activites from Step By Step.

Sing some songs about orange from Preschool Education.



Letters -- E, F

"E" words to build on: eggs, egg shells, egg cartons, envlopes, elephants.

"F" words to build on: face, fire engine, fish, fox, fan, funnel, felt, fabric, frame, floral, foil, frosting, feathers, foot
