Preschool Resource Room
I have given lots of thought about this area of the child care. It seems the parents want some evidence that we have been doing something all day. I like how Lisa Murphy put it at one of her confrences, "Art is not a recipt for child care." I can feel the almost relief from the parents when their child has a paper of some sort to take home. In my heart I know children don't learn as much from paper and pencil, coloring books, worksheets, etc. Children learn best by doing. My job is providing the materials and support to let the child learn on their own.
In the past year I have changed my thinking quite a bit and have researched what it means to have a child centered curriculum. I think I am somewhere between a "themed" curriculum and a "child directed" curriculum. I am sharing what I've found works for me.
I have a wonderful preschool plan book called
"The Preschool Daily Plan Book" where I write
down the plans for each day.
It's affordable and versitle enough for the
home daycare provider or homeschooler. |
